Ik kreeg hier een tijdje geleden al een e-mail over, maar ik kon er nog niets over vinden op WHT. Maar het lijkt mij slecht nieuws voor de meeste hosters hier. We kunnen natuurlijk niet allemaal 10.000 euro betalen om registrar te worden. July 29, 2005 -- (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- The operator of the new .eu domain EURid (eurid.eu) says it will not permit registrars to sell .eu domains through resellers.
In a statement on its Web site, EURid said "the offering of services as a 'reseller' is completely excluded … only companies and undertakings which appear in that list [of accredited registrars] have the authorization to offer .eu domain name services.
EURid's position was taken as part of its agreement with the European Comission.
Research and analysis firm Netcraft (netcraft.com) says similar bans for the forthcoming .xxx and .travel domains are being discussed in industry circles.
Web hosting companies are often domain resellers, marketing them alongside hosting plans often at severely discounted rates. Netcraft says the move by EURid, if followed by other top-level domains, could push hosts to become accredited registrars themselves. It could also push registrars to consider the jump into Web hosting.
The Planet and EV1Servers recently became accredited domain registrars. Among the top Internet brands, only Google is a registrar while Yahoo! and Microsoft continue to resell.
