Bonjour, goeiendag, hello,
Par simplicité je vais écrire ce post en anglais, je le traduirai sur
demande.
Ik zal dit post in het engels schrijven maar ik kan het even vertalen op
annvraag.
I'm trying to help my brother-in-law with his Tiscali ADSL connection.
Windows XP (SP1) PC connected to Topcom Webr@cer 852 PSTN USB ADSL modem
with Tiscali ADSL service.
I've searched on previous posts in this group but most suggestions had
to do with drivers updates. I don't know what version he has and I'm not
sure it would help in this case, please read on.
The modem seems to be installed properly, I get a connection with IP
10.0.0.3, I can talk to the modem on IP 10.0.0.2. I can log in to the
admin screen where I can set the connection parameters. And this is
where I need help. I've tried various settings, nothing worked.
On the status screen, I get the following:
Firmware and other info..
ADSL Line Status: SHOWTIME
Downstream Data Rate: 3000 something
Upstream Data Rate: 128kbps
PPP Connection status: not connected.
The rest seems irrelevant since there is no connection, no IP, no DNS
etc.
Power LED is on steady, ADSL led is on steady. Data LED blinks from time
to time.
Diagnostic page says the following test failed: Test PPPoPvc 0 PPPOE
Connection.
My understanding of things is that the modem is hooked to the ADSL
network OK (ADSL LED on, status saying SHOWTIME) but authentication (if
required) seems to fail.
The line is PSTN and my brother-in-law got filters for each phone plug
in the house.
Am I supposed to get a connected status? If yes, should I use the
Tiscali username/password to connect, and if yes using which protocol
(PPPoE None, PPPoE LLC, PPPoE VC-Mux, PPPoA etc). I figure the VPI/VCI
are 8 and 35. Tried all PPPoE (not the PPPoA) with m.yname@tiscali.be
Should I use blank username and password?
When I dial the PPPoE on the computer, I get a 678 error, no response
from server which would make sense if the modem says it is not
connected.
I'm new to xDSL access (been using cable for a while now) and certainly
not used to the USB modems (why in the world didn't he get an ethernet
one :P) so any suggestions will be appreciated,
Eric
