Maybe even the most stupid uninformed retarded moron has a right to be
called a stupid uninformed retarded moron as an act of mere courtesy
towards a realy stupid uninformed retarded moron, if not for the slimmer
of hope that even a stupid uninformed retarded moron might develop some
commonsense and shed his stupid uninformed retarded moronic behaviour
and wise up a little by means of an act of mersy in replying to the
stupid uninformed retarded moron in question ?

But I could be in error on the courtesy and mersy bit ofcourse...

Yeah yeah yeah. Just talk some more stupid, just try to push
me and one day some of the readers here will disconnect you.

Than your IP is again in the disconnected list. Not so difficult.

Then don't call it "a troll and rogue cancel server". That still is in

Call Chello NOC, they probably will be most happy to assist you. Nail the
    bastard who does it.

I just hope for you that bastard is not using a Tiscali account, you can
trace it till there, but fat chance of making it stop. Any other ISP will
    immediately disconnect.

But aren't you *cancelling* articles of Tiscali users? In your
    basenote you say:

    > Technical suggestions:
    > - UDP cancels will have !udp-tiscali-nl! in their Path header

    > nl.internet.misbruik.rapport

If I understand the terminology correctly (I used to run an in-company
News server) this is an active UDP. The cancels might/will be processed
by servers which don't filter on Path headers and might even cancel
    articles on Tiscali's servers.

I have no involvement in this whatsoever, so I couldn't care less, but
I object to the implication that there is/can_not_be 'collateral (sp?)
damage' when there can be and probably is.

There is no implication that there would be no collateral dammage.
Everyone is aware of the collateral damage. In fact the collateral damage
is advantagous in this, Tiscalis users start to complain to Tiscali.

    <offtopic>
Uhm, why don't you start recoding your lame crashing Java App before
spewing nonsence. (hint: people see through you rather easily)
    </offtopic>

A UDP works on the same *principal* as blackmail:
    -=> pressure

Tiscali has been neglecting it's duties towards Usenet, all other
means on pressuring them into action have failed. Hence with an
UDP the pressure isn't applied to them directly by the people who
are having to deal with the sh$t, but by the people they make money
off from. And that turns up the pressure notch quite a bit.

Blackmail is about receiving goods or payment from the pressured
party. An UDP is to encourage an ISP to Do The Right Thing (tm).

    > I don't care less, but somethings said in this thread make somekind of

Not at the moment. Also it's something users *can't* fix. The provider
    has to fix it.

    > If I understand the terminology correctly (I used to run an in-company

    You do.

    > The cancels might/will be processed
    > by servers which don't filter on Path headers and might even cancel
    > articles on Tiscali's servers.

It's correct. In that way, users are 'involved' but it isn't something
I can't help. The newspeers of tiscali can do of course. If they de-peer
    the articles won't be canceled.

    > I have no involvement in this whatsoever, so I couldn't care less, but
    > I object to the implication that there is/can_not_be 'collateral (sp?)

There is 'collateral damage' if you see every users as an appart usenet
intity. If you look to it from another view it is no 'collateral damage'
couse it's only 1 server. It really depends on the way
    you look to it.

BTW: We never intent to harm tiscali users. I surely want to give
them access on my newsserver (with auth) if the UDP is going on.

IMHO innocent users (are they innocent?) can have some problems, but
we tried to do almost 'everything' else.

Well, just realize that it is *not* *just* "my servers, my rules",
i.e. also other servers and users are affected in an *active* UDP like
this one. A *passive* UDP, i.e. agreed-upon de-peering is "my servers,
my rules", but an active one isn't.

    Thanks for your response, Mendel.

BTW, why isn't this proposed UDP (also) being discussed in
news.admin.net-abuse.policy (I am reading this in .usenet)? While I
haven't followed .usenet much, I have seen many UDPs proposed/discussed
in .policy, and, AFAICT, (proposed) UDPs fit .policy's charter better
    than .usenet's.
