NETWORK MAINTENANCE

The past few weeks a few milestones have been reached. Our network passed the 10 gigabit per second barrier and we route over 1.4 million packets per second. To keep our service at an acceptable level we’re forced to upgrade our routing platform.
This week our routing engines at the Databarn site have been replaced with two Foundry MG8 routers, one fully IPv6 capable. The next weeks we’ll continue working on them to make the network as redundant as possible.
This maintenance window we will replace our Foundry JetCore 4000 router at Sara with a Foundry MG8. This new router has much more capacity and allows more 10G Ethernet connections. After that, we’ll reconfigure our Foundry JetCore 4000 router at TeleCity2 to allow better performance and perhaps we’ll put a second Foundry JetCore 4000 online at this site. This will allow us to take our Amsterdam Fibre Ring into action.
Because of the impact of this maintenance window, service interruption will occur. During the start of the maintenance window, between 03:30 and 05:30 CEST disconnects will occur, resulting in a degraded performance. In the second part of the maintenance window minor interruptions may occur when we finish our work.
