A major South African internet service and fiber network provider, Cybersmart, suffered a nationwide outage starting mid-day this past Monday.

The disruption affected fiber customers, web hosting services, and the company’s own websites, as reported by MyBroadband .

It also reported that data from Elitehost, a web hosting firm in Cape Town, showed around 70% packet loss at the onset, while Cloudflare Radar confirmed a sudden traffic drop from Cybersmart’s network.

Cybersmart indicated a faulty core switch was to blame and dispatched technicians to replace the hardware. Though partial service resumed by Monday evening, customers continued to report slow or inconsistent connectivity.

Downdetector noted a spike in outage reports across multiple South African ISPs, including Vumatel, Vodacom, and Openserve.
