    D-Link DI-614 wiresless router crash/reboots

A user of ours has reported that the D-Link DI-614+
Wireless router/firewall is vulnerable to several old,
well known vulnerablities. The user was able to reproduce
the problem multiple times with consistent results. Not
having the equipment, we have NOT reproduced these ourselves,
and would appreciate if anyone can corroborate these
    problems.

The vendor was notified on March 13th and has not responded
    back.

Both tests causing problems were reproduced using the Nessus
test suite. Test IDs are Nessus test ID numbers and are
    supplied for reference.

Nestea: A Nestea attack applied to the device causes the
device to spontaneously reboot. The device is out of
operation for only a few seconds and is then back in
service with no other known impact.

Linux 0 length fragment bug: Sending the appropriate packet
causes the device to crash requiring a power off-on cycle
    to recover.

If anyone can support that their device does or does not behave
    similarly it would be appreciated.

    RE: D-Link DI-614 wiresless router crash/reboots

    Thomas,

I have a DI-614+ that I use at home and I have noticed a significant number
spontaneous reboots lately. A few weeks ago, I installed the beta firmware
of Dlink's website thinking that that would solve the issue but that did not
work either. I have not run any scanner on my device just every now and
then my wireless pcmcia card will lose connectivity. I even swapped out the
card thinking that that was the cause but that did not take care of it. I
will try to run the scans you mentioned to reproduce the problem.

Please let me know if you discover anything else and hopefully we can get
D-link to acknowledge the vulnerability and come up with a solution.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Thanks,
    Rick

    Re: D-Link DI-614 wiresless router crash/reboots

Using the Nestea.c attack source code from
    http://www.insecure.org/sploits/linu...S.nestea.html, I launched the
attack against my router with the following syntax - './nestea 192.168.0.101
192.168.0.1 -n 20', making it go through 20 iterations of sending the
attack. My DI-614+ wasn't affected at all by the attack. I ran the attack
again, this time specifying '-n 99999', and again, no result. As far as I
can tell, nothing is even in the logs informing of this attack.

As far as the other vulnerability, I haven't yet had a chance to test it. If
I do get that chance, however, I will post a followup with the results.

    >A user of ours has reported that the D-Link DI-614+

Thomas forgot to include the Firmware that machine is
    running.

I am a user of the above mentioned device, new firmware for
EUROPEAN (important as the european distributors are lagging
a few versions behind) and US versions can be found here (2)

Please note that as seen on DSLREPORTS (1) the router
sometimes behaves unstable. With some firmware versions
even a normal Telnet session causes a reboot on the
router. That said, I don´t think the router is vulnerable
to only these specific attacks, but the firmware running there
    is simply buggy.

Applying the current firmware (2) solved all problems
I had with the router, no more stalls or reboots. The attacks
mentioned here had no effect on my DI-614+.

I recommend every European (and of course US) user to upgrade
to the latest firmware and if he has the guts to the
    latest Beta firmware drivers.
