    Test ADSL

    Bonjour,

One of the most important things to be fully sure ADSL will work on your
telephone line, is the Ohm value you get when short wiring the line.
An ideal value wold be infinite, but mostly a very good line gets +10
MegaOhm, an average line around 5 MegaOhm, mostly lines are between 1 and 2
MegaOhm, which is sufficient, thinking 750 KiloOhm is the minimum value
required for optimal working. Unlike what most people think, distance isn't
all that important, you could very well get a good ADSL signal when being
away 5 km from the central, providing you have a good Ohm value. Then again,
I have seen lines work with 100 KiloOhm, which is far below the minimum
    required.
All is dependant on your specifiic situation.
As Hugo pointed out, you cannot test ADSL on your line, when it is not
active on it. In the central, the ADSL signal needs to be added to your
regular phone signal, and this only happens when you are subscribed for an
ADSL service, by Skynet or another ISP.
Belgacom people can test this Ohm value for you, the test is called a
VRS/4TEL test. When you would dial the a technical Belgacom number (such as
080022312 - ADSL helpdesk) you could ask if they could test this for you,
however, they might not do it as Belgacom employees (especially the ones on
the phones) tend to be very much sceptic about people asking for stuff they
    should not be asking about.
If the person you get on the line does not want to do this for you, dial
again, another employee might, if all fails, you could mail me your phone
number and I might be able to get the line tested for you.

    Good luck.
