Hi all,
This morning at 10.00, the Tiscali news service has been migrated to
Scarlet. From now on, customers can use news.scarlet.be to read and post
in newsgroups. The old names news.tiscali.be, newz.tiscali.be and
omeganews.tiscali.be have been diverted to news.scarlet.be.
Customers will notice a larger offer of newsgroups and a longer
retention. They will have to update their headers and news groups on the
first connection to the new server.
Customers who are connecting using an IP address, or using the Dutch
hostnames, will still be able to connect until the Tiscali BE IP ranges
have been removed from the NL servers. This will happen in the coming days.
A description of the Scarlet newsgroup service:
Scarlet decided in 2004 to outsource its News Offering in a continous
effort to deliver a good quality service to its users at affordable
prices.
Giganews (http://www.giganews.com) was choosen as our news partner
because of its unique features:
- Point of Presence in Europe, more precisely in Amsterdam
- 60k+ active newsgroups
- 50 days retention for single and multi-part binaries
- 650 days retention for text only newsgroups
- connection based, unlimited download subscription formula for ISPs
Our service has been configured as follows:
- download of message headers at 3 MBPS
- message download at 256 KBPS
- up to 2 connections per source IP address which gives a bundled
download capacity of 512 KPBS for message bodies
- unlimited download
- 2 dedicated Scarlet Newsgroups: scarlet.announce & scarlet.general,
the latter is public and can be used for general purpose by our
customers.
Best regards,
