Bekijk Volledige Versie : BRUTELE problems: any solution or diagnostic sw?
Sorry for the english.
I am having big problems with Brutele.
The modem starts flashing for no apparent reason (sometimes it is
downloading like mad, sometimes it happens when it is doing nothing)
and I cannot make it connect anymore for hours, and even days in a
row.
Their technician says it is my connection which is not standard. In
effect the previous owner of the apartment connected together three
apartments and their TV cable networks, but when the cable modem was
installed the Brutele technican declared (I have it in writing) that
it was ok, and in any case it worked well for 9 months.
Also, when another technician came, I saw the modem connecting
instantlaneously. I asked the technician what he had done and he said
he had "enlarged the band", whatever it means. So, if the connection
was faulty, I do not think it could become good just because he
enlarged the band (but I could be wrong, I am not an expert).
* Anyway, has anyone had such experiences?
* I have a Terayon Terapro TCM 200 modem, does anyone know of some
diagnostic software or internal web page which allows to read teh
conditions of the connection (Signal to Noise Ratio, received
power..). I know it is possible with DOCSIS modems, but this is not
DOCSIS.
* Any idea on the reason of the problem and possible solutions?
Thanks in advance
Maurizio

I'd suggest letting them make it standard
Bad cabling and bad (or multiple) connections in the path to (and from !)
the modem are a recipe for disaster, either immediately or over some time

which says nothing about the quality of the connection
those 9 months could have "blown up" your modem
if it always has to send out at peak level, you will eventually fry it

Maurizio,
There is no embedded web server in the cable modem. It is basically just a
bridge.
The only way to get some diagnostics is to tap into modem through its serial
port
Here is a link describing the procedure.

I posted on this subject in the past, because I was doing some
downloads at the time,, but after that I saw the modem disconnecting
when it had not been loaded at all.
Also, is there any way to exclude this hypothesis? Isn't the seld test
working? Other tests?

What is this link? When I clicked in it, it blocked the modem and for
the first time it had ALL the lights flashing, including th MESSAGE
one which had never flashed before. Normally it is the Online flashing
reds and either SEND flashing green and SEND fixed green or, more
rarely, both flashing green.
After the modem blocked it took a couple of hours to reconnect.
Also, today I had a discussion with one guy who threw a competely new
perspective on the subject.
According to him (and he is a technician in a shop) the problem is
related to Brutele servers: he says Brutele has different servers for
each type of operating system. He says Brutele often has problems with
those serving Macintosh clients (I did not mention this in my previous
message because I thought the type of compter did not matter in
network problems) and that this could be the reason. When I came back,
I disconnected the Ethernet cable and BAM, it connected.
Is this possible or is it just luck? I'm gonna make like this all the
time and see if it works again.

Not really. Well, no tests you can do anyway.
When upstream attenuation is too high, the modem can either not work at all,
or work for an undetermined period, then quit. When it quits working, it can
do so instantly and never recover, or it can fail intermittantly, recover,
fail again until it finally quits for good.
All very vague and ambiguous.
Typically, it's something a good helpdesk should check when you call them
for connection problems.

An explanation of what the combination of various LED indicators mean.

"online" flashing red is an indication of signal troubles according to that
Terrayon page
Same for "message" flashing or continuously red,
if it's (flashing) green, the modem is in its registration process
That's stuff your provider should check out.

I'd be VERY much surprised if this was indeed the case.

No idea.
