The RIPE Network Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC) is one of five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) providing Internet resource allocations, registration services and coordination activities that support the operation of the Internet globally. The organisation is set up as a not-for-profit association and the working language is English. The environment is internationally orientated, with staff from more than 20 countries.
The IT Department (OPS) is responsible for developing and maintaining a state-of-the-art computing and communication infrastructure for the RIPE NCC. IT provides support to users of the internal and external RIPE NCC services and is divided into two different teams: a First Line Support (FLS) group and an Engineering group.
Our external service infrastructure operates on Linux platforms and the computing infrastructure operates on a mixed platform of Macintosh, Linux and Windows. The majority of our software tools are written in Java/Perl and make use of common UNIX tools. We provide our own IP connectivity and peer at the AMS-IX Internet Exchange.
We are currently seeking a Support Technician to join our IT Department. The new Support Technician will report to the IT Manager.
This position is based at our offices in the centre of Amsterdam.
General Duties:
- Act as a first point of contact for the IT Department
- Provide customer support for our internal and external clients
- Manage our ticketing system queues
- Identify, analyse and resolve issues quickly using keen problem-solving skills
- Perform basic system administration activities
- Perform asset registration
Essential Qualifications:
In addition to the general qualifications we are specifically looking for:
- Experience with End User support in a mixed Macintosh, Linux and Windows environment
- Clear desire to support users both inside and outside of the RIPE NCC, with good service delivery
- Understanding of Macintosh/Linux/Windows operating systems in an office environment
- Two years of experience in End User and customer support
- Understanding of Internet protocols and technologies
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- Ability to work both independently and in a team
Desirable Qualifications:
One or more of the following qualifications are desirable but not essential. Please do not hesitate to apply if you do not meet these; please document them in your application if you do.
- Work experience in an international environment
- Experience with Linux/UNIX system administration
- Experience with Windows (2003 or 2008, Windows 7)/Macintosh within a Linux environment
- Experience with IP services and network administration

Salary:
The annual salary for this position is between €36,815 and €41,833 (before tax). This includes the standard 8% annual 'holiday pay' and a 5% end-of-year bonus. The monthly salary is between €2,715 and €3,085 (before tax).
