Paris, June 25th 2008 - Launched today at ICANN Paris, a new extension for Internet domain names that will open a brand new horizon for Dutch and international enterprises. From September 2008, companies and other interested parties will be able to give a Dutch "flavor" to their Internet presence by using the "co.nl" ending.

Directly operated from Amsterdam with the technical back-end of EuroDNS SA, a global Registrar of Internet Domain names, the service is aimed at international users willing their Internet Addresses to end in ".nl" but with additional flexibility.

"The co.nl extension will be open to anyone, with no requirement of local presence or tie with the Netherlands" confirms Sander Scholten, General Manager of the CO.NL Operator "Because openness should not mean free for all, we have taken several steps to ensure protection of third parties’ rights".

Accordingly, a so-called "Sunrise Period" will be specifically dedicated to Trademark Holders to give them the opportunity to Register their brands as CO.NL names before the system is open to the general public. Beforehand, a "Grandfather Period" will allow holders of a ".NL" domain name to register the same with a ".Co.nl" ending. Both periods – beginning in September – will benefit from the expertise of Deloitte Laga. The firm will validate customers’ requests based on trademark registries.

Several International Registrars have already asked to be accredited by the Operator and the next ICANN meeting shall be an opportunity for many more to come on board. "our partners do like the concept“ added Scholten "some of their customers have been looking for a better way to express their Dutch identity on the Internet for some time now, and they see CO.NL as a perfect opportunity".

co.nl was toch altijd uitgesloten van registratie bij de SIDN ?!

Is laatst vrijgegeven, ze doen het grappig, een sunrise invoeren voor een subdomein.
Wij boycotten het, verkopen van subdomeinen komt er hier niet in.

Nee en terecht maar veel mensen zullen weer denken dat dit een echt TLD is.
Erg jammer.

Heb hem ook dadelijk de vuilbak ingekieperd. Pure verkoopspraatjes om een subdomein toch een beetje belangrijk te laten lijken.

Oja, als je een registrar wil worden moet je een fax sturen naar Luxemburg.
(je weet wel , dat belastingparadijs )

maar goed, het is gewoon een subdomein niks meer. Niks minder

Een plek zoals co.uk zal het nooit krijgen

Vind ik mijn subdomein fuckoff.nl leuker.
Ik zie dit echt niet van de grond komen hoor maar wie weet trappen er nog wat bedrijven in.

Ik vind het echt verschrikkelijk nutteloos. Als je op de internationale markt wilt richten gebruik je .com of iets dergelijks. Ik zie een Amerikaan nog eerder .nl intypen dan .co.nl.

Maargoed, ik zie het nog wel gebeuren dat bedrijven "hun" .co.nl registreren omdat ze bang zijn dat er anders anderen gebruik gaan maken van hun bedrijfsnaam op .co.nl. Voor de eigenaar van .co.nl is dit natuurlijk een heel goed businessmodel - maar ik begrijp totaal niet waarom de SIDN dit toe zou staan.

Waarom zou de SIDN dit niet toestaan? Je staat vrij om je domeinnaam verder te exploiteren.

Denk inderdaad dat er toch een boel bedrijven zijn die inderdaad bang zijn omdat iemand anders ze dan "registreert" . Nadeel is alleen dat die gasten straks ook mensen kunnen gaan bellen van; "Wij hebben hier een aanvraag liggen voor bedrijf.co.nl maar we willen u eerst de mogelijkheid geven om deze te registreren" of ze laten het subdomein overkopen door bedrijf.co.nl ergens naar een x-rated website te pointen of whatever they will try to earn dirty money!

Idd, wat een bullshit!

Sander probeert gewoon zoiets als een Moerstaal achtig product aan de man te brengen
of mensen erin trappen vast wel.

Vooral beginnende bedrijven zijn erg bang hun
"domein" kwijt te reken.

Het idee is leuk maar alleen misleidend vooral omdat er "sunrise" procedures zijn
doet denken aan een eurid methode.

Waarom zou de SIDN dit niet toestaan? Je staat vrij om je domeinnaam verder te exploiteren.

Dat wel, maar ik vind dat de SIDN dit soort domeinen zou moeten uistluiten van registratie. Het is dan welliswaar verkregen via loting, maar dat doet er niet toe.

Maar echt winst zullen ze er toch vast niet op maken. Dit wordt nooit het grote publiek geaccepteerd want wie er nu abc.co.nl hebben als je abc.nl niet hebt? Je gaat als serieus bedrijf niet terugvallen op een vaag subdomein voor je website.

Je hebt trouwens ook .NL.NU en die subdomeinen zijn gewoon gratis voor iedereen
